This position is part of the Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI), under the supervision of Dr. Zongjie Wang. The research addresses the resilience of data centers and the electric grid. It covers data centers as large electrical loads, load flexibility and demand-side management, the impact of extreme weather events, and large-scale power system modeling, simulation, and optimization.
Intern
June 2022 – August 2022
This eight-week internship was approved by MEPCO headquarters and comprised three placements: the SS&T Division, Multan (27 June – 15 July), the Operation Division, Moosa Pak (18 July – 5 August), and the T&I Division of GSC, Multan (8 – 19 August).
The first placement included training at the 132 kV Wapda Town grid station. It covered the station’s single-line diagram, from the two incoming 132 kV lines and the three power transformers (one 31.5/40 MVA and two 20/26 MVA) down to the 11 kV feeders. It also covered the hourly log sheets of transformer temperatures, tap positions, feeder loads, SF6 breaker pressure and the 110 V DC battery, the protection settings of the 11 kV feeder panels, and the permit-to-work procedure for isolating and earthing equipment. Together, the three placements gave hands-on experience in transmission, distribution, grid maintenance, and utility operations.
